Cropping Videos

Learn how to crop your screen recordings in CANVID, keep only the content you need, and fix window‑capture limits with a quick, non‑destructive edit.

Give viewers exactly what matters and trim away the clutter. Cropping lets you focus on a single window or region after you record, so you can safely capture your entire screen (great for pop‑ups or system menus) and tidy things up later.

How to Crop Your Video

Open a project in the editor

Start a new recording, open an existing project file.

Use the Crop button

The Crop button is located in the bottom-right corner of the Editor preview.

Drag to crop

Drag the white handles to box in what you want to keep. Click Reset at the top-left to start over.

You can also fine‑tune using the Size, Aspect Ratio, and Position fields for pixel‑perfect control.

Finish

Click Confirm Changes to apply your edits. Alternatively, select Discard Changes to return to the Editor without saving.

Cropping can change your video’s final resolution. To prevent black borders, use the Aspect Ratio button after cropping to keep your video in the correct proportions.

Why use cropping?

  • Recorded your entire screen but only need one app? Crop out the rest and keep the best part.
  • Missed a floating menu (like a file or right-click menu)? Record the full display, then crop to include everything important.
  • No region capture in CANVID yet. Cropping lets you achieve the same result without re-recording.
Cropping is non‑destructive. You can reopen the Crop tool any time to tweak or remove it.

Frequently asked questions:

Does cropping lower export quality?

  • No. The original recording stays intact. The app exports only the visible pixels at their native resolution.

Can I animate or keyframe the crop?

  • Not right now. The crop applies to the entire project. For dynamic focus, add zooms on the timeline instead.

What if I only want part of the video cropped for a few seconds?

  • This isn't something that's possible right now. Cropping will be applied to the whole project. In these scenarios, zooming is your best friend.
